Satoshi is right. They are not trapped. Trout will move up and down through most of that water with ease. It is pretty amazing where you will find them. Further up on this stream is a 60 or 75 foot cascade where the water gushes down a rock face. There are a couple of small pockets along the edge part way up. They are about the size of a coffee table and aren't deep enough to winter in either. I have fished them several times and pulled decent fish out of them. I bekieve these fish are moving up and down the watershed.

These are all wild fish too. This stream is designated by the State of North Carolina as Wild Trout Water. They do not stock streams with that designation. It hasn't been stocked in several decades.

You are right - there isn't alot of spawning area along this stream. But, they seem to make the best of it.
