Vintage Heavy Brass/Bronze Bell with American Eagle Finial – Approx. 8" Diameter – 7.5 lbsSubstantial vintage cast metal bell featuring a large spread-wing American eagle finial and original internal clapper.This bell came from the collection of a longtime boat captain who collected nautical and maritime items, and it is believed by the family to have been a ship or boat bell. No vessel name or maker's mark has been located, so it is being offered as a probable nautical / ship-style bell rather than with a definitive vessel attribution.The bell is exceptionally solid and heavy, weighing approximately 7.5 pounds, with a mouth measuring approximately 8 inches in diameter. The metal appears to be brass, bronze, or a similar copper alloy.It produces an excellent deep, clear ring with a long sustained resonance when struck.The separately cast American eagle finial is mounted at the crown and displays detailed feathering on both sides. The bell retains attractive natural patina, darkening, surface wear and areas of green oxidation/verdigris consistent with age and use. It has not been polished.Approximate details:
