This is an authentic and dignified Japanese antique hanging scroll (Kakejiku) delicately hand-painted with sumi ink and mineral colors on paper, portraying a graceful crane and a small songbird amidst bamboo and running water from the Edo period bearing the Kanō Morinobu (狩野守信) signature, complete with its wooden storage box.
Condition: There are visible signs of age consistent with an authentic Edo-period antique paper painting. Natural antique surface toning, historic paper creases, and faint past restoration marks are present across the antique paper surface, while the elegant brushwork of the standing crane, the colored songbird, and the green bamboo remain clear, expressive, and visually striking. The mounting fabric was professionally remounted into a hanging scroll in 2008 (Heisei 20), and remains sturdy, clean, and in sound condition for immediate display. Titled \"Ryūsui ni Take Tsuru-zu (流水に竹鶴図)\" (Stream, Bamboo, and Crane), the composition portrays an auspicious red-crowned crane perched majestically atop a rock, while a vibrant little songbird chirps along the bank of a flowing stream flanked by evergreen bamboo. In Japanese cultural heritage and Zen philosophy, the crane is revered as the supreme symbol of longevity and noble peace, while bamboo embodies resilience and unyielding vitality throughout all seasons.
