Description of the Oil Painting:In Texas Stream, Greer presents the viewer with a landscape with florals and a stream with a small waterfall. Clouds appear to be slowly drifting upward. The Texas landscape has a luminous quality within a realistic setting. It is both dreamy and inviting.Artist Background: A.D. Greer was born Aubrey Dale Greer on December 25, 1904. He passed away on February 9, 1998. In his youth, Greer worked as a logger in the Colorado Rockies and drove spikes for the railroad – jobs that provided him much opportunity to explore the mountain ranges and other landscapes that became the subjects of his paintings. Greer was active in the art world from 1938 until his death as a painter, muralist, and commercial artist. ** A.D. Greer was a traditional painter of landscapes and still-lifes. He was known as a sort of visual jack of all trades. Greer’s ability to capture beauty resulted in creating landscapes unlike any other. Greer was influenced by masters like Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt and Robert Wood. Greer’s works influenced artists like Gerald Harvey, Joe Rader Roberts, Porfirio Salinas and adopted Texas Robert W. Wood. Reportedly, G. Harvey called A.D. “the best landscape artist of the last century.” **Greer did commissioned work for Charles Lindburg, Will Rogers, Governor Allan Shrivers, Michael Halbouty and Frank Irwin. His painting \"Cattle Country\" was purchased by Lyndon B. Johnson and exhibited at the White House during the Johnson presidency. During his lifetime, A.D.\'s works were exhibited throughout the United States in galleries such as Allen Art Gallery, Taos Art Gallery, American Fine Arts Gallery, Laguna Gloria Art Museum, Sherwood\'s Gallery, and Florence Art Gallery. **Extra Comment:In his novel The Unknown Masterpiece, French author Honore\' de Batzac wrote, \"The mission of art is not to copy Nature, but to give expression to it! You are not a base copyist, but a poet.\" In Texas Stream, Greer allows the viewer to gaze upon the landscape and create the viewer\'s own reality. Once created, A.D.\'s original oil painting seemingly invites viewers to step into their newly created reality to enjoy the scene as if viewer has become a part of the art itself.**Sources: Nanette Richardson Fine Art, J.R.
