Rare Jizai hearth hook Fish shaped stopper, 19th century < ZE50 >
Such hooks were traditionally used in wealthy farmers houses and were suspended from the ceiling over the traditional iron hearth. Beautifully carved from Keyaki wood (Japanese zelkova) , perhaps most desirable hard wood in Japan, known for its strength and beautiful grain. A very beautiful patination on wood surface developed over the years of usage and constant smoke from the hearth.
Age: Meji period , 19 th century
Size :42.5 cmx10.5 x15 cm ( 17 x 4 x 6 inch )Weight: 1400 g (3 lb)
Good condition with patination and some minor abrasions due of ageas you see in the photos .
