Add a new game—name that fish—to your next gathering with this provincial Chinese tea bowl, and imagine its journey from 19th-century Qing Dynasty China to your home. Was it tucked into the hold of a trader\'s ship or a traveler\'s trunk? We\'ll never know. Although the maker\'s mark hints at its origins, it is smeared. There\'s also a small chip in the glaze near the rim.Hand-painted cobalt fish flit inside the bowl like they\'re swimming in a pond. The classic blue and white interior, painted with swift brush strokes, is offset by a cafe au lait glaze. A few bubbles in the glaze and the roughly cut notch on the base hint that this was an elegant, but practical, everyday item.
Show off its artistry by placing it on a low shelf or with the rest of your Chinese blue and white porcelain collection. If you like practicality with your art like I do, place it on your dresser to corral rings or trinkets.
