Antique Fish Servers Silver Plate- A&D Allen & Darwin Circa 1898-1912 Sheffield.
These are stunning late Victorian Cutlery Fish Serving Pieces, Art-Nouveau style, which have the silversmith's mark for silver plate for Charles James Allen & Sidney Darwin trading as "Allen & Darwin" of Sheffield. Active at Portland Works, 55 Arundel St, Sheffield (1898-1912).
Both the knife and fork are stamped with the "A&D" of the company, letter "S" (bar diagonally through it), and an hourglass sand timer. This gothic "S" is often used for Sheffield or to imply the quality of Sheffield silverplate.
The knife slice and fork server are beautifully engraved and etched with a pattern on the front of them. They are in very good antique condition with wear consistent with 125 yrs of age and use, please see photographs particularly the last one. The silver plating is beautiful and preserved very well.
The approximate measurements are as follows:-
The Knife is 12 inches/ 31 cm long & 2 3/8 inches / 6 cm wide at widest point.
The Fork is 9 inches / 23 cm long & 2 1/8 inches/ 5.5 cm wide at widest point.
