A Unique Set of 4 Antique Hand Blown Green Glass Fishing Float balls.Offered is this lovely set of 4 unique original floats made of hand- blown green glass, specifically designed for use in fishing. It is likely of Japanese origin although many were made by the Norwegians or Russians. Fishermen used as them as a floating device for fishing nets.These collectable antique fishing floats were invented by a Norwegian man in the year 1940 and soon maritime fishermen from Asia to Europe used them as buoys in their nets to catch a variety of fish. This practice continued until sometime in the year 1960 -19?? then, balls were replaced with lightweight materials like Plastic, Styrofoam, Cork or Polystyrene as these material were just as buoyant, yet much cheaper.Discontinued, The lovely, handblown Glass Ball Float became instantly collectable and took its place in maritime history.Found on the Oregon coast, (a few on the Washington coast)Very clear with only a few small bubblesShipped with USPS Ground Advantage.
