This 13 STAR FLAG-is a unique piece of history and possibly It was used by the US Navy as a Small Boat Flag although not made in a Naval facility rather by a civilian flag maker contracted by the Navy for its construction. The flag features the American stars and stripes design, the stars in the 3-2-3-2-3 configuration

often called the Hopkinson pattern and Was was likely made 1890’s - 1915 period the stripes are wool and hand pieced and stitched by treadle machine. The 13 star canton is also wool with double applicated stars made of cotton. The hoist strip is a cotton twill like material. The flag is a fairly early piece before the stars became super sized. The overall dimensions are approximately 46.5”X24.5”This is an elongated size occasionally used on earlier flags and not often seen today. The dimensions where the length of the flag comes close to being twice the height dimension, give these flags a somewhat sleek and terrific appearance as opposed to the more boxy look of the later squarish flags.

This flag has been flown long enough to validate its antiquity and and authenticity. It has the Patina of service and authetiicates its proud history. The flag is in really great shape for its age and use but does come with some staining small tears and rips and with a somewhat ragged lower edge on the 13 stripe. The colors are bold and vivid and even the white stripes are a lovely hue with as expected toning. Pictures describe the flag much better than words and l’ve included many specific photos of the major flaws.

This flag has been professionally framed and mounted, using archival products during the process. The frame is imported and made of solid wood. There is also a seperate smaller gilded frame encompassing the areas next to the flag itself self. The covering of the frame is a type of museum glass designed to be thin anti - reflective and screens out most damaging ultra violet rays.

You will see shiny spots on most pictures from reflected sunlight. My apologies but I think you’ll still get a great feel for this truly beautiful special flag. I’m selling with FREE TO YOU SHIPPING and your new addition will be ready hang in your home or office right out of the box.
