I like your tools Gus, is that deer antler? . I cat believe this thread stayed cold. Anyone who enters the wilderness to play or work should have acquired the skill of fire making. You never know when you might find yourself in an emergency situation which requires you to be warm, eat, boil water etc. When taking my son or any mates who are new to the bush I always light the fire using alternative methods apart from the easy gas lighter or matches way. This teaches them an important skill and keeps me honed . I always welcome the chance to learn new ways.

The bottom photo is a Swedish fire steel - yes, with reindeer antler. It was a gift from a friend in Sweden, actually. He made it, and sent one to my son as well. The top is a Wolf Creek striker, forged from a file. The flint is actually from the creek near our house. :)
