Thread: Hello

    Hello

This is the best site I have found dealing with the only type of fishing I do, small stream fly fishing. I Am reading Mr. Gierach's book on the same subject. It is worth reading.

Spent a few hours stream side this morning and caught some Brookies, using Elk hair Caddis, size 16. It's great to be able to go out this late in the year, in short sleeves.

Any body from the central sierra, between the Merced and San Joaquin river?

I have looked for technique info, on the site, and cant find much. Did I miss it?

My first Rod was given to me by my Folks when I was 15, or there about. It was the fiberglass Trial Master comb, 7.5 ft. 7wt. 4 piece.

I did not use it much. years later when I got back into fly fishing I bought a starter Sage 9ft 5wt, and a Ross real, have used that ever since and it has done fine. It is a little long for the small water and overhanging trees and bushes. So I got out the old rod. It was amazing how good it worked. One would think a 7wt would be to much for the stream. Since it got the fly where I wanted it and I caught fish, I guess it was fine.

Thanks for this site and for all the entries from so many people from around the world.

    Close enough.

As far as technique, the Gierach book is a classic, and one of the few written specifically for it/us... The rest, well, maybe we ought to post some topics on that!

I have also resently read Dave Hughes on the same topic. I think it is better then the Gierach book.

Any one have other reccomendations, now that winter and Christmas is quickly approaching?

Welcome! I frequent the central Sierra quite often. There is a ton of info on the internet fly fishing blogs. Reading their stories and gaining knowledge! I have not only learned a lot, I have found incredible new waters! Reading them has changed the outcome of my trips in very positive ways!
    Good luck!

Steven Ojai's site is excellent! Look up High Country flyfisher, Wanders with Trout, High Sierra flyfisherman. http://www.highcountryflyfisher.com/ http://wanderswithtrout.wordpress.com/ http://highsierrafly.blogspot.com/

That is a good site with many great links.

Have you, or anyone else, ever fished Sycamore Creek that joins the Kings River just above Trimmer Springs? I am asking because for the most part all fishing in small creeks, worth fishing, will end in this area on November 15th, inside the boundary of the national forest where almost all of our trout streams are. The Sycamore runs outside of the forest for a distance before it joins the Kings. Any other creeks in this area that anyone knows about that can be fished after the 15th.

    Thanks,

Welcome. Gierach is one I like to read (he understands my addiction, so I can relate easily to his writings) lol.
