Excellent. Austria is high on the list of places I want to fish, those are very cool looking rivers.
:bigthumb:
nice pictures, my dad is from Austria (Kaernten), and went there there last June to visit family and friends, but while I was there I didn't even think about fishing (and even if I did it would be very dangerous due to the runoff) but I'm sure I'll bring my rod next time i come over.
Absolutely gorgeous, Austria is definitely on my list of places to visit.
Nice! Very nice!!! Any native trout in the tribs. to those rivers? It looks like the mountains get rather steep, rather fast. How far are these pics. from roads? I wanna go!!!!!
Beautiful!
sweet water and pics. nice.
Wow! You certainly have beautiful rivers.
Are those waters public?
Hi,
Unfortunately, even though the country is full of great water it is often difficult to organise a fishing permit, and normally very expensive. One thing I realised when I moved here from England was that a day ticket on most Austrian waters would cost the same as a year ticket for a lot of British fishing clubs...another reason I got a yearly club membership was so that I could go as often as I wanted without paying a fortune.
As far as I know there is no free fishing whatsoever here.
The feeder streams for a lot of these rivers look great and if you go for a walk along them you can often see the wild trout which live in them. Access is normally good as it´s a small country and most of the paths in the hilly/mountainous regions follow stream beds. The problem would be obtaining permission to fish.
But I might have hit it lucky. A few weeks ago it was my father-in-law´s birthday party and he introduced me to one of his friends who owns a lot of land in the valley. The friend has several kilometres of small trout stream on his land which is absolutely unfished except for when his grandchildren visit and they go out with worms for an hour. He said there were lots of wild browns and grayling and the odd big rainbow which appear to have moved up from the big river and stayed. Sounds great and I´m hoping he still remembers me when he gets the call in summer!
