    1-23 trip report

in WI we are lucky enough to have some spring ponds which remain unfrozen the entire year and where the season opens in jan which provides me with plenty of relief from the shack nasties. last saturday a buddy showed me one that i have never been and he said he has seen quite a few big fish but not much else. I tend to belive his stories since they have introduced me to some great fishing.

anyway last weekend was nice and warm and pushing 40 degrees. i was in town to help bounce at the bar he works at since they were throwing a big party (which we ended up shutting down early due to jerks throwing a glass at one of the female bartenders).....and I take what work i can since being broke recently graduating college and basically unemployeed at the moment.

so saturday morning well more like lunch since we were out late drinking.....which my friend and i tend to do. we started fishing i grabbed a 6 and some streamers (it was windy and i didn't feel like throwing nymphs on the 4wt) and started walking the shore of the pond. we fished for about half an hour when we saw a splash and we both casted into the area. a few seconds of stripping later i saw abig wake coming at my fly and just annihilate my fly.

i'll let the pics do the rest of the talking

    Hooked up

    bringing him in

    almost have him

    GOT HIM!!!

and one without my hand covering the tail

we moved on and i spotted another fish just sulking on the bottom a little smaller then the one i just landed. and i learned my bass fishing ways are not completely gone. I flipped the streamer over it's head and watched it sink and the brown just rose it's head and sucked in the fly. and this is where i set the hook way too hard and pop the 4x like it wasnt there.

I did land one more little rainbow too but no pictures of that little guy.

Nice winter brown! That'll help cure cabin fever.

That is very encouraging. Perhaps I should try some area stillwaters when it warms up. Nice fish.
