September fishing in the Colorado Rockies

    Colorado fishing
I was in Colorado the first week of September. I spent 5 days back packing and camping. I hiked up about 4 miles into a wilderness area and set up camp. The main creek had three forks and I fished all of them. There was a mix of browns, rainbows, cutthroats, and cutbows depending on which fork and high up in altitude I fished. The weather was great with showers almost every day, but they were later in the afternoon or evening and did not interfere with fishing. I got soaked a couple of days hiking out in the rain.

I use an 8 2 wt so any fish can put up a good fight. The streams seemed to be up a little from the summer rains.

Nice kipper. Were you fishing dries or terrestrials? Sept. the nymphing seems to lean toward the very small in my experience--if they are not looking up. I think you got there right at the right time--before the high country got any colder. Thanks for not being explicit about the location. I hope you had the water mostly to yourself since it was Sept.

I usally like to fish RMNP but with all that has happen lately here its going to be awhile for me to get to do some fishing in the park. With all the rain and flooding the drive just got a lot longer to go anywhere with all the roads that are closed here. Hwy 34 going up the Big Thompson probably won't be open until next year sometime.
