Adam,

I should have noted in the report, that Paul carried his Tenkara rod at all times on the stream. He has a purchased a couple more and uses them in water that he describes as "ideal" for Tenkara--rough and rocky shoals (about as close to pocket water that you are going to get in the Driftless.) I know he also uses his Tenkara rods when he is in some of the very narrow pasture streams. I don't think his approach or what he gets out of fishing is all that much different than what you describe---freedom is a good description. It may look like we were over thinking our fishing but I guess that is why I pointed out that despite the fact we were pretty sure they were feeding on midges we didn't really adjust our fishing to take advantage of the observation. Mostly it was about observing and finding pieces to puzzles and finding more questions to ask. If I haven't said it enough, I truly enjoyed and cherished yours and Satoshi's account of fishing in Japan.
