Nice post. I plead guilty . . . to being another biologist that is hardwired to small streams.

Here in Alaska . . . i can't seem to give up traditional fiberglass/graphite rods and reel . . . AND GEAR . . . AND SCIENCE . . . but i confess that for local day-trip fishing for grayling here in the boreal forests of interior Alaska i fish ( almost exclusively) Tenkara. It's simple, quick and to the point . . . " i cast a fly line to connect me to now." It's easy and unfettered to grab one Tenkara setup, fire up the r80gs, ride to the smallstream, walk up or downstream, fish , repeat next day . . . or when/where ever (8->)
