33 years ago I encountered a similar storm in August at the "Window and Rio Grande Pyramid", on the CDT, which still lingers in the back of my mind and I suspect your trip will linger a long time for you. You were most likely catching Colorado River Cutthroat trout because San Juan drainages flow to the Colorado River.
