    Bank Holiday Monday!

Monday, 30th, of August, is a Bank Holiday here in the UK. Well, we've had some rain recently, that has flushed and cleaned the rivers and streams; but luckily it stopped in time for the annual Bank holiday! Weather forecast looked good, the sun was shinning; and the wife, didn't want to go out anywhere special for the day, said she had some things that needed attending to around the house! She gave me permission to go out to play (go Fishing) for the afternoon. Well, after having a short break away from home; and abstaining from fishing for a week or so, I couldn't resist the Memsahib's generous offer - I escaped (left the house) just before 1.00pm, and was soon casting a line. The stream had benefited from the recent rainfall; and was running off just nicely, water was clear and the air temperature was getting quite warm as the day moved on.

The first couple of hours fishing produced nothing; now I only use a dry fly on our local streams, don't like using nymphs on the small streams! So, even when there's nothing rising or I fail to invoke a rise to my dry fly, I will continue fishing the dry fly, in the hope that I can eventually bring a fish or two to the surface! Well, I was eventually rewarded for my efforts; and the first fish to hand was a monster, considering the size of the stream, you would not expect to find or catch a fish of this size! I have in the past caught a few fish close to two pounds, many a fish of about a pound or so in weight; and lots of smaller fish, but this is the largest I've caught in this stream!

This is the fly that did the business.

The aternoon turned out to be extremely rewarding, with several smaller fish coming to hand, also a few in the 14inch, bracket! Here's a few more photos.

Oh Thank Heaven for Bank Holidays! Your patience was rewarded with a beautiful stream and fish. In the one pic of your rod and BBS lying on the rock, that the leader goes up in an angle. It reminded me of the typical scene I see when I am fortunate enough to get on a small stream--my leader up in a tree or bush! HA!

Well spotted Danny! Fly caught on over hanging foliage; time for a rest and a photo opportunity.
