Thread: A Damp Day On The River Usk!

A Damp Day On The River Usk!

Just like the British pop group: Wet Wet Wet! I was soaked! It rained all morning; and some of the afternoon, but as one of my fishing partners said "A drop of rain can't hurt you" So true! Actually, the rain was a welcome sight, as the river level is way below where it should be at this time of year! Anyhow, the rain didn't dampen the excitement or our expectations of fishing one of the most prolific "Wild Brown Trout Rivers " in the whole of the UK!

The day began with the sighting of a Salmon leaping from the water on one of the long deep pools! We also saw a large dog Otter chasing some Lamprey, causing a real commotion - splashing about in the middle of the river! Horrible looking Eels, the sea Lamprey! The fishing was slow; and at times very difficult, but we all caught several fish throughout the day!

All in all, it turned out to be a really good day on one of the most beautiful rivers in the country!

Just a thought! Can anyone spot the fish in the next photo? Sorry about the photography!!

The river is certainly very beautiful! (and the trout too.)
    Thank you for posting.
I haven't fished such a flat river. Do you have to find a rising fish before you cast, or do you just blind cast to good looking waters?

    Hi Satoshi,

The photos of the river are deceiving! It's not that flat! But it is very low at the moment; and yes you have to seek out the fish! It is one of the most prolific "Wild Brown Trout" Rivers in the Whole of the UK. She is a special river, "Madam Usk" and she can really put a spell on you! Magical.

I certainly have a love affair with her!
