    An Evening on the Stream

I had decieded to fish a small stream Wed. evening for a few hours.
This stream is heavily covered with hemlocks, and in places quite dark.
I started fishing dries, Bombers, Parachute Adams, and Wulffs, but there were no responses, although a few rising fish were seen. I tied on a streamer and continued to fish. Soon I was rewarded with a strike, a small brookie. After a brief tussel he went right and the streamer went left. The fishing remained slow but the time was right, with the low light conditions.
I spotted a very good piece of water that I felt held a trout or two and let the streamer work. Several casts later and no interest paid. One more cast which brought the streamer close to the tree and bank, I was rewarded with a flash and a strong pull with a good hookup. The fish felt strong and after a few minutes the brown came to hand. From his heft I could tell he was used to dining on small brookies. A brief pic or two and off he swam to his woody, watery lie.

    Where the brown was taken,

Ditto! I have found that sometimes in order to get a fish out from inside the overhanging trees and brush, you have to let your fly drift really close to the bank.
