in the winter time this is my favourite fish
because when the water temperature is down, they seems to be still active
at -15 C temperature, the bank's of the river was frozen
another fisher was here

That's a cracking looking river, must be a beautiful place in warmer weather too. Very healthy looking head of Grayling in it as well, really love the look of Grayling in mainland europe.
Cracking post, thanks for sharing it with us.

Nice but cold. brrrr.

Nice pics! We have plenty of grayling in some of the rivers here in Denmark, but they're all closed now due to the trout being out of season. Don't know why we can't go grayling fishing here in the winter like alot of you guys. Whereabouts in the world is this river in the pictures?

wow. beautiful. (i hope you got those guys back in the water before they suffocated. it's an issue of mine.) but really awesome pics.
Chiiiilly willy....looks like a very sheer & sunless section of the river valley, albeit an eerily beautiful one.
Not that I'm any expert, but they look like good sized Grayling too....Nic, any flies in particular that seduced those ladies of the stream ?
Would love to explore something like that myself....nice shots.
Out & about....looking for trout.

In the winter time for grayling, I use most of the time small nymphs.
if the water is deep, I use small but heavy nymphs
my first choice is a pheasant tail, with an orange bed head. if I want extra weight I use tungsten bed head. Another nymph is caddis pupa ,with golden bed head, tungsten for heavy.
hook size for them is 16-18-20.
very rare in cold time, they rise for small dry fly, in shallow part of the river. small like 24 to 30 size hooks.
I'm both warmed and chilled at the same time. Thanks for sharing your time on the stream. I've got to go warm up my hands now, my fingers don't want to move.....
Sweet shots! We even have grayling here in Arizona...sssshhhhhhh. It's part of the grand slam of feesh. Browns, Rainbow, Apache, Brookies, Grayling all in a day's adventure. If you want more in a day start off at the crack of dawn in Mexico and finish up in the Whites in the evening.
Great country!
Dude, amazing!.
