There are a couple of spring fed ponds near me that the season opens on on the first of the year. these are kind of a zoo since they really are the only open water fishing and starting a few years ago became mostly stocker fish (the dam holding back the spring water to form the pond broke dropping water drastically killing most of the fish). but it is fishing in Jan in open water so i go.

like i said the place is usually a zoo but on the first it was quieter then usual which is good so i rigged up with a gray scud which is the best producing fly for me there and went to work. well it didn't take long.....in fact i hooked up on the first cast.

This little porker came to hand. The browns to my knowledge are mostly wild and much harder to catch then the rainbows in the pond so i typically sight fish foe the browns.

I ran into a customer of the shop i work at soon after so i spent most of the time helping him. we went to another pond which the DNR regularly stocks with brookies and typically theycan be a pain to catch but they were for lack of a better word just stupid that day. I caught a bunch but didn't take pics as they were all small and I didn't want to kill them in the cold by trying to get a pic of them.
