only thing i can see that i would change is on the ausable wulff shorten the body some and move the wing back a little so you can wind some hackle in front of the wing as well. Otherwise very nice ties.
This is by far my favorite. I tie it with a couple of different hackle and tail colors mostly brown or black to imitate different stones. A WI pattern the Pass Lake dry.
Nice flies Terry.
We both know what they do to those little wild gems.
Thanks for posting,

Thanks for the photo , terry, The bomber with the yellow post, i have seen many times in your posts.
Its a Mr. Rapidan tied bomber style. The yellow is real easy for my eyes to pick up. I don't think it outfishes the Ausable bomber, its just easier for me to see. It became my go to fly at the end of this years season.
The Usual and Ausable Wulff are two regulars in my brookie box as well. When I first began tying, I learned a few patterns out of a Fran Better's book (the name escapes me) but they were his inventions, the Usual and the Ausable Wulff. Great patterns, without a doubt. I am curious, though. Is the Mr. Rapidan also from upstate NY?
Nice flies - the Ausable Wulff and the orange Bomber are two that I've had some success with this year.
I fish mostly stimulators, and only orange. The brookies in the streams I've found aren't interested in much that isn't orange.
No, it was created by Harry Murray of Virginia. He is kind of the "Fran Betters" of Shenandoah National Park. Its a good pattern that has produced well for me over the years. I really like the yellow wing, my eyes pick it up easily. When I first got into tying, one of the first ties I did was combine the Rapidan colors into the bomber pattern. Its a great small stream brookie fly.Originally Posted by jdm5047
