A few summer pics from the Conejos area of south-central CO
These are a few images from the Conejos area of south-central CO. It has a lot of water and does not get as much pressure as most of the other areas of CO. :shh: It is known as CO's wildest corner. And thanks to monsoon rains in July, August and September the Lodgepole Pines are still in great shape and are not decimated like the rest of the state.

Brown; it is very interesting that fish just a few yards from each other can have such different coloration and patterns

Tobacco Lake; an alpine lake that sits at about 12,000'; not many trout left and they don't stock it anymore

I fished Tobacco lake 10+ years ago. I had just about forgotten it's name until I read your post. Great pics.

Gorgeous country and river. Maybe the browns are colored differently because some are from stocked strains? That is a remarkable difference. Have seen the same in other places also and believed it was because some came from a long wild heritage and some from a stocker heritage.

As long as there is no lightening, toss on the rain gear and grab a streamer. That's when the fishing really gets good!

ryan, you fished tobacco lake? that's cool. how did you do?
glad you guys liked the pics, thx.
interesting comment on the differences in trout coloration. thx.
i hear that about wild weather. but the monsoon storms have a lot of energy, and a good part of that is lightning.

Sorry. I meant trout fishing in general. I have not fished that lake, but I do love a good storm to really get the big boys moving.
