Aloha, had a great time down in Baja. Some are saying the sun is setting on the fishing in baja, but for us it was a great time and a great change of scenery. This is the famous light house, one of my favorite spots on Earth to fish. ...

Aloha. I got the unique opportunity to guide on Palmyra for the Nature Conservancy a couple of weeks ago. Here is Time Boyle owner of Columbia Sporting wear getting ready to board our jet leaving Honolulu and heading to Palmyra. It was about a 2 hour flight.

Here is the group arriving at Palmyra. It is a remote island north of Christmas Island, part of the Line island group. The Nature Conservancy has done some remarkable things with the island like exterminating all the rats that were left there after World War II. During that period the island housed over 5,000 soldiers and they basically rebuilt the island into an oceanic airport.

Bonefish found in the inner islands of the Seychelles rarely swim in shoals and do not swim in shoals of hundreds (and definitely not in shoals of thousands). They are educated – they do not simply eat anything and have been known to refuse a perfectly good Charlie that worked just yesterday. And catching Bonefish in the inner islands takes patience, effort and hard work.

    They can be downright enigmatic.

Dad didn’t get one on his trip here in 2004. He’s been visiting for three weeks and has been practising his double haul and perfecting presenting a heavily weighted Charlie on a #9 as if it were a dry fly on #3.

Had a discussion recently about small stream fishing and methods... and it made me think. I'm not sure where to post this, so it goes here where lurkers, members, search bots and everyone else can see.

smallstreams is not about fly fishing. It's about fishing small streams in any responsible manner you choose.

Sure, most of the participants here are primarily fly fishers, but I honestly believe there is nothing wrong with casting spinners on monofilament, there is nothing better or worse using some other type of pole that's been used for centuries and is the latest fashion from overseas. Fishing is fishing. ...

Editor's Note: Warning: Graphic fishing hook and human interaction content!

Aloha, went ono fishing yesterday. Got two nice ones, 37 and 52lbs. Had a big cuda hit a skirt and I didn't even gaff it, just threw it in the box. My friend wanted to get the skirt back in the water and I went to get the trail hook out of the cuda's mouth. Only using my leather man I tried to avoid the teeth, but when I grabbed the hook the fish jumped and put the first hook in my hand. I tried to push the barb through, but the hook was pretty big. I was afraid I might have nicked the artery by my thumb and decided to just head in and go to the emergency room.
