Aloha, went out today with my friend Ed. His son, Eddie got this 35lb ahi on chunk bait on the small bait caster. It fought pretty hard for 45 minutes.

It is a Rainy's bubblehead popper. I rep for them and tie up some of my flies and they sell them. You can go to their website, Rainy's flies and check out the saltwater fly selection. All the ones with Don on them are mine, mostly bonefish and trevally flies. The bubbleheads are on back order. they are my top producer for tuna here in hawaii. They look like a pelagic shrimp we have here. I have used them all over and they work well in Mexico, baja; Christmas Island, Palmyra, Louisiana marsh, Martha's vineyard. We made them with larger 5/0 hooks, cause you never know when a big ahi is going to hit. I have caught yellow fin to 80lbs on the fly with this popper. I think they will work well for Albacore off your coast. you might try them in blue or purple to mimick your bait fish. Big ahi are a blast on topwater. Mems
