Stevenson River Marysville, Victoria, Australia

I needed to clear my head after my eldest brothers funeral a few days ago, so headed to a favourite spot of mine, the Stevenson River at Marysville in Victoria. A pretty little stream that has a good population of wild rainbows and brown trout. The stream is very clear and even without the Polaroids I could see many trout in the water. I used a 6'6" 3/4 outfit which has become my favoured gear on small streams, where I rarely cast more than a rod's length of line. Royal Stimulator with a black bead head nymph on a short dropper. About a mile of wading upstream brought me an assortment of browns and rainbows, taken on both the nymph and the Stimulator--nothing big--the largest brown trout was about 8 inches. All released along with the smallest trout I've hooked on a fly--all of 4 inches. A pretty little creature. I would have waded further upstream as I was having so much fun but the light began to fade very quickly. A good day and I went home feeling fine. Fly fishing a small stream and the sound of running water can be very cathartic.

Your pics are very interesting. Streams and trout are similar around the world. The bushes and trees look very exotic for me. I'm looking foreward to your next report!
