Rainy Day's and Monday's!

May 14th, it's more like Winter than the close of Spring. The weather is so changeable, we had rain and hailstones today; and the wind was quite gusty. The type of day you stay indoors? Well Maybe? Changeable weather I said, well my mind can also be changed, especially when the sun puts in an appearence. By Lunchtime today the sun was shinning and the rain had stopped, it was still quite windy. I didn't think the river or streams would be suitable for fishing, so, I made the decision to go for a good walk along the stream. Donned my walking boots and a suitable lightweight showerproof jacket, just in case the weather changed again? Oh; and of-course I was going to take my fly rod with me (you didn't think I'd walk the stream without a fly rod did you?) just in case I felt like casting a line in the water; and there's no hardship in carrying a 7ft fly rod when you going for a good long walk. No Waders! I was traveling lite, although I did grab my fishing-backpack, well, you never know when you'd need another fly or two!

I left the house at about 2pm, walked the stream for about 2,miles (stream was looking pretty good) then I came upon a stretch that was not running too quickly; was also clearing of any discolouration. Anyhow, I thought I might give this calm-ish stretch a try. Well, not wearing my waders meant fishing from the bankside; and finding suitable places to kneel down and get the line on the water. Fishing a short amount of fly line with a 7ft, leader; and targeting mostly the margins of the stream, meant that stealth was crucial in an attempt to fool any Pyscod Bach (little fish) that inhabit the stream. I must say that my stealthy approach paid dividends, fishing a size 14, black parchute emerger (OK a small klink) saw several fish to hand; well, untill the rain and hailstones returned at about 4.15,pm, that soon got me hot-footing it for home! Funny how some day's a long walk can become so rewarding. > Some photos>

So pleased that - like the changeable weather, I changed my mind about going out today! Changing one's mind, can be extremely rewarding on occasions.

I'm glad you changed your mind as well. Changing weather/season is a time of contrasts and often intense experiences. Thanks for sharing. I can feel the warmth of the sun and the nip in the breeze.

Had another day on the stream Wednesday; and it's surprising how much the water level has dropped in a couple of day's >
