A Danish aquaintance has told me of what looked like tenkara gear being used in a sea location with great success. The observed angler was of Asian appearance and was fishing in an area of rock channels full of kelp at low tide. I have searched the web (especially Japanese sites but can find nothing.
Anybody out there with any info? Rods, lines, flies and patterns etc and experiences.
Thanks.

"Tenkara" is fly fishing (Japanese style) in mountain streams.

You can take a tenkara rod and fish for tuna off the side of a boat, not tenkara.

You can take a tenkara rod and fish for steelhead in a river, not tenkara.

Pole fishing is pole fishing.

I could really care less what anyone calls it but since I know a little bit about it, I'm going to share my knowledge and keep you guys good with it.

There are many many types of pole fishing, some use rods that are very much like tenkara rods. I fish for Hera (carp) with a Hera rod, looks like tenkara, it is not. There are pole fishing techniques for the salt but it is not tenkara. May look like it but it is not.
