My favorite fishing spot has been blown away.

If paper-shuffler begin with nature conservation - nature is on the losing side!
The old dam has been deleted and the new one gives more water on the private (energie)mill of the majors son. To bring the big rocks to the dam and the mill stream outlet without touching the farmland around, the diggers drove through our 2 km strech many times.

These are my last pictures from there forever!

Good news: My fishing buddy had the chance to lease a beautiful 4 km stretch in our region. Two small streams included. We'll manage the fishery together and so I'm looking foreward to the 2012 trout season.

It's really sad to look at such a ruined stream, particularly if you have good memories of fishing there.
Still, I think the stream and fishing will probably recover within 10 years as the vegetation comes back to the streamside.

To me it looks like the stream has been opened up and some artificial dams have been removed. How can this be bad?

@Martin:

On the first picture you can see the natural fish-stairs beside the old dam. There was no need for digging 2 km best grayling and trout stretch.

The main point is that the stretch now has less than the half of water as it had before. On picture 10 you can see that the mill stream is 5 times bigger then the rest water in the river bed.

In general removing of artificial dams is a good idea. But here they build an new one (with natural material) and ruined a great fishery for years.

There will be no mayflay hatch for a long time! Yes, vegetation will com back soon and in the next years nature will take over as Satoshi said. But without water is no aquatic life and so for no trout fishery!

Last point:

The stretch (fishery) is leased by a private fly fisher. The yearly fishing licences are rare and expensive. All fly fishermen are responsible to take care of the water, stock fish and clean the riverbed from rubbish. We (inclusive the owner of the fishing rights) expected to be part of planing. But we were not!

I can see your point, Thomas. That is sad indeed!

I'm curious as to what the dam is for? And energy mill you say? Here in Denmark those kinds of mills are being taken down in more and more places since the amount of electricity that can be produced is extremely small compared to the damage such a damn is inflicting on the environment.
