Our 'rivers' on the Lake Superior shore generally are more like fast rocky creeks. Got down to the shore yesterday and the pink salmon were in en masse. Pods of 40-50 fish moving though every few minutes. Nothing big, a good fish will go 16'' and the average is closer to 14'', but these were fresh from the lake and mint bright and full of sas! Pretty sure they had just come in on the 3/4'' of rain we got the previous 24 hours as the rivers have been extreamly low.
The best part of it was I had the whole river to myself. Pinks don't have much of a reputation around here. Most folks don't see them until next month when most are dead or dieing, won't take a fly and can't fight any more. Get on them now and you can have a great time on a 4wt or 5wt rod. I had one , which I lost, go up and over a 3 foot cascade while keeping my 5wt TCX bent into a hoop!! Leaves are starting to turn, everything was looking good and I had a bast!!
