A long overdue return to South Uist saw me getting fishing lessons every morning from otters at the bottom of the garden. I did get a few hours in here and there, the best short session was on a loch ten minutes walk cross the moors from the house. The loch is about a mile long but nowhere more than 100yards wide, in many places you can cast right across it. What it lacks in width it makes up for by having very steep banks dropping vertically at the edge into the dark peaty water.

The fish were in superb condition, short fat things that pulled hard for the depths when hooked.

With luck I'll get back again before the season end but if not I know where my first casts will be next spring.

Beautiful pictures! You just have to love watching otters. They have got to be the most carefree looking animals out there!

You must have been very close to the otter to take the photos. Amazing!
The browns are very fat and beautiful.
Thank you for posting.

Wonderful, open, spacious country. Otters and fish up close. Very nice perspective.
