Heard a whisper on the wind, that there may be a rare self sustaining brookie stream in the new england area, here in Oz.
After wading through the chaff, an internet search provided a single forum post, 3 years old. So I emailed the author in the vain hope that he might share this rarity. Fortunatly for me he did.

A cold spell rolled in, standing in cargo pants, hands numb & eyes watering from the icy biting wind, my brook trout virginity was lost ......

Ofuros; That is a precious place you have there. I hope you will guard it well.

Looks to be some good water there and plenty of space to have fun. Green with envy. Jax

Thanks Jax,
Its a very rare stream indeed that holds brookies in this neck of the woods,
a special & finite resource, so yes... my lips will be tightly sealed.

You are truly blessed to have those wild jewels to angle for.
They are precious.

I was wondering the same thing, satoshi.

There are several Trout Acclimatisation Societies in New South Wales, so I'm guessing they've tried to introduce brook trout
into certain streams in the past, without much success... so stopped stocking them.
Of the 2 trout hatcheries in NSW (one in the north & one in the south of the state)
the southern trout hatchery still produces brook trout... mainly for stocking the many dams & lakes for recreational fisherman.

Layed up in emergency bed with bandaged foot looking for distraction and found your posts.
I just read through all of them in order and enjoyed them tremendously. Thank you and keep them coming!
Ps wish this was a fishing accident at least. Stepped directly on a glass my son broke.

Joseph K,
Thanks for the kind words ....you'll be back on your feet in no time.

Adam,
worth all the cloak & dagger.

Flickfly,
half your luck...some people don't rate them but they're a pretty species, even if the don't fight as hard a rainbow or brown.
Vive L'difference.

Hello Ofuros,
If I want to catch big Rainbows I can drive 35 or 40 minute north & chase summer run or fall Steelhead. Then there is the Lake Ontario Atlantics that trickle into the River also. I still have a great fondness for the Brook Trout.
