I have been having some fantastic Ephemera Danica fishing the past couple of days. Friday and Saturday I had a friend over hoping to fish a nice hatch of mayflies. When he arrived it was pouring down with rain and the wind reached storm speeds. Not exactly the weather you usually associate with dry fly fishing.
But he had travelled all the way to the mainland so fish we must! We decided to try this new small stream that neither of us had fished before. It turned out to be a terrific little stream. Almost completely overgrown with ranunculus, but in every single little pool of open water a trout would hit the Danica imitation without hesitation. All while it was raining and very windy. It seems the big mayflies like that kind of weather. Who would've thought. We had over 50 fish between the two of us in two days, some really good ones also.

A couple of days later I was in another part of the country for some external examinator business, but after the job was done I drove to a larger stream nearby. There were mayflies everywhere, and within 10 minutes I had hooked and released to very nice 16 inchers. Good days!
