Check out the unusual coloring of this brookie. While I've come across many color and spotting variations over the years (on brookies) this one is/was the most remarkable. I took several photos of the fish from different anlges to filter out any light produced illusions and I still have 20/20 vision. Almost looks like some type of arctic char - or variant of - and, if it wasn't in NJ, I's say there'd be a chance it is/was.

As most of us here know even brookies came be somewhat chameleon like but...

Sorta reminds me of those sometimes found in a deep lake or dark beaver pond but this guy came from a small mountain freetone stream (that is not stocked and never has been). Caught another in the same pool that had the 'standard' look of brookies there. A friend said he caught one similar, several years ago, a bit upstream.

*Note - Notice the lack of vermiculations.

I sent a series of high resolution photos to couple of fisheries biologists but received no reply (and I usually get answers from them).

What do you guys think?

Either depressed or it has been a long time since he had sex.

It could be a stocked brookie.
