After 3-4 months of reading & enjoying everyones streamside exploits on this forum,
the time had finally come, for one of my own.
Headed down the coast, crossed the the border into NSW (Australia),where the new
trout season was about to open.
Just a quick opening day session. Dawn till Dusk.
Grey & overcast, drizzling heavily, a blanket of silence hung in the air.
No wind...sheltered, overhanging canopy, numerous small fish, so went with the 2wt, 7ft leader,
2lb tippet with my version of a black & peacock Sz 16.
Mostly tie on large eyed hooks nowadays because my eyes arent so good & just plain
easier to tie on with cold, numb, clumsy fingers !

Alarmed by my noisy bushbashing, a wiry Bush Turky shreeked its call,
before disapearing into the dense, wet undergrowth.
Aniticipation high. Movement in the pools & runs. They're there.
Hooked & lost the first few, frustration starts to build until,
finally I catch my first for the season !

Happy now, the theme of loose a few & hook a few continued
throughout the long day.

Steady drizzle with occasional heavy downpours continued,
but I was warm & dry. I sheltered under a trees dense canopy when I had to.

All browns so far, which seemed strange as the mix is usually 50/50, browns & rainbow.
Love the red spots on this one.

Stopped counting after 8 fish came to hand, anyway, in my book I was having
a very gooood day.

Further upstream, a rainbow, just three for the day.

Time got away from me & before I knew it, it was time to start heading back to camp.

Drizzle gave way to a steady downpour the river was rising.
My pace quickened as the light started to fade, slippery rocks, in the darkness
is not my idea of fun....then again.....there's always time for one more :D

Happy & contented,
Warm & dry,
exhausted but elated........its going to be good season.
