There is a good possibility I will be heading to Virginia in late October or early November for a few days of fishing with a friend (he lives in Richmond). It's just a matter right now of nailing down the best days for my trip up.

From our most recent conversation, I believe we will be hitting the streams in SW Virginia, maybe the Shenandoah Valley or the small streams in the more extreme SW.

Would like to get a head start on maybe tying some flies for that trip, and am looking for any recommendations as to "don't go without" flies. I looked on the internet for some hatch information, but the only hatch chart link I found for the area took me somewhere else, not even related. He knows of some Brookie streams and I hope we will be able to fish at least one of them while I'm there.

I have plenty of midges (#20-24) of various colors, and figured already on taking some soft hackles (#14-18). They are always on my "don't leave home without" list, and am thinking they would be a good pairing for there too?

Bead head black ants, grey beetles, my two favorite flies for VA, Mems.

Thanks Mems! Now looking like the trip is up in the air. Work will likely get in the way; but my boss is the one that lives in VA and the one I was going to fish with. Have to admit, I would not have thought about ants and beetles that time of year. Appreciate the input!
