My passion is fly fishing small streams, but the weather of the last few weeks have been hard on those streams. No rain, bringing the water levels to low to fish.

I'm fortunate to have a fine tailwater fishery close, The West Branch of the Farmington. Its waters are cool and the flows just great. I have been fishing there my last two outings and have done well.

The two mountains come into play because that the origins of the two flies I used to fish with.

The Ausable Bomber, who's origin is The Adirondacks, and The Fluttering Caddis who's origin is The Catskills.

They both worked well on these Connecticut browns

Very healthy looking fish, especially that first Ausable brown who appears to be very rotund. Nice to see with the smaller streams and their residents suffering through some very low flows.

It's great that you have the Farmy so close by to fish during the summer.

If I were you, I would commute to the river every weekend.

Satoshi,

I fish this river often, and especially in Autumn.

Mostyn,

Thanks.

The Farmington is electro shocked every autumn by the DEP. The fish that turn up in their surveys are awesome. Lots of natural reproduction. Its a year round fishery and some 25 inch specimens are taken.
