I started fishing these a few years ago when a friend gave me one and said , give it a shot. I was a bit skeptical about the flies ability to entice a trout, but I tied one on and on the second cast a nice brown hit. The brown put up a valient fight, which he eventually won. I now carry a few in my box.

I tie them in various colors but find brown and pink work best.

And with the kitchen project compleated I was able to prepare my first dish in the new kitchen.

A wonderful salmon chowdah.

Great stuff my friend!
I'll have to tie up some worms.
I like the new countertop too!

Thanks AT,

How did you do on your trip with the newbie?

The river was very low. I managed one small brown.
My friend fell while wading and dislocated his finger (he popped it back in) and suffered a puncture wound to his hand. Yikes! I felt terrible. He had never fished a small stream, just larger ones out west. The mistake he says he made was to step up on an exposed angled rock.
Just a reminder to everyone, wade carefully as the rocks that are exposed now in low water conditions are usually underwater most of the year and are very slippery.
Stay safe.

PS. Need to get you down to that Class 1 near me. The flows there are good and the water cold. Had a great evening there last week.

I use them on the san juan and get good results. I wore one out on a dirty little c&r creek this spring on some big bows planted by g&f. I only had two worms and lost the first one after 2 fish. Caught 8 more on the other one and walked off the stream with it. I love them for off color water now.

Uhh, nice idea for a fly. Wonder why I never thought of that before :)
It is borderline bait-fishing, but I think I'll give it a try!
