This is a pattern that was created by Fran Betters of Wilmington NY back about 1950. I don't know if they ever got the recognition they deserved.

They preceded the comparadun by 20 years. They also catch trout.

Hey, they work (the proof is on the water as I always say). Many of Fran's patterns are still around in fly boxes and have stood the test of time !!! ;)

Amen to that! I surely did not know who originally created them, but they have been a go-to fly for me when other patterns weren't quite fitting the bill.

Brk Trt, the Haystack is my "hatch matcher". Great fly. I tie mine with more of a flared wing. Thanks!
