The season has gotten started for the warm water fish in one of my favorite non-trout streams.

The walleye spawn is still on but mostly passed so I hit the stream looking for the small mouth that follow them in from the Canal that this feeds.

I wound up touching the leader on my first Walleye (short, about 14"), and catching a couple of the average smallmouth for here. The water temps are in the mid 40's so it took dead drifting clousers (and losing an entire fly box worth) right on their noses to catch them. Once they were hooked, though, the fight was as hard as I remember, putting a deep bend in my 6wt and tearing line off of my reel.

Thanks Brk Trt. I love that place. I've posted about it before, but this year I'm catching them earlier than ever.

Its great fun on the fly.

I have a small lake I go to from time to time and fish it with the fly.

The variety of fish that I take is awesome.

I'm looking foward to a few more of your bass posts.

Thanks,

Brk Trt

Thought I'd update this. Took a new fly angler fishing today to my warm water small stream. He christened his rod very appropriately.

This was his 3rd or 4th fish, ever, on a fly rod, and first with this rod and reel.

And I also landed my first Walleye on the fly

Thanks Brk Trt and Phong

The offer stands if you want to try your hand at some warm water small stream. The Walleye should be hot for the next couple of weeks and you're always welcome up here

Ha, that would require me to drive north instead of east. If I am going to get up there I better do it soon, the old lady and I will be moving back to VT as soon as we land jobs.

If Brookies are more enticing, we have those too!

And I don't blame you for wanting to move back to VT. We spend a significant amount of time over there.
