I'm currently visiting friends in LA and i'm considering it as a possibility for future residence. How far would i have to drive to get to any decent fly fishing for trout? I'm from MA and have very little knowledge of the CA geography or flyfishing opportunities although I'm sure there are plenty. Any insight is appreciated!
thanks

LA sucks, na just kidding, I heard there are fish in the San Gabriels. Closest I found were on the Kern River, 2 hours north. The Seirras are greast, love Yosemite. You can always jump on a plane and fish baja for some saltwater action. Good luck, the traffic is horrible, Mems.

I think you will be surprised by the trout ops in the area - I know I was. I posted some pics about a month ago from a small stream in North San Diego County and I know there are several in Orange Co. and others not far from LA proper. Do a little digging and you'll be happy.

Hey Cluster,

Do a google search for Deep Creek Fly Fishers, Fly Fishers of Orange Country, Long Beach Casting Club; they all have excursions to local and not so local waters for a variety of fly fishing species. I used to fly fish in the surf in S. CA for Surf Perch, halibuts and corvinas, tons of fun on a fly rod. Also, the bays are a blast to fly fish, too.

Say hello to all the fruits and nuts for us.
