View Full Version : Stoke from years past
Hey all:
I've been in winter mode lately, but dug a few pics up from the last few seasons and thought I'd share as we transition from Winter to Spring. Looking forward to exchanging the skis for a fly rod when I head into the backcountry.

And one from a more sizeable river a little further North...

I'll venture a guess that the first fish is a Rio grande or a Greenback Cutthroat, probably wrong but amazing fish. Tha first picture is amazing, looks like you could walk forever.
All of the photos are from the Rio Grande basin in NM, except the last fish photo, which is just barely across the border into CO. The first two fish are Rio Grande cutthroat. I hardly ever remember a camera but am glad I had one on these outings.

Love the wide open country with the wriggly blue line running through it.
Some fine freckled fish too.

ryan, ok, let's see. is that stream from the valles caldera preserve? i swear, i have fished that stream and am just wondering. love the rio grande cutts. nice pics. one of my favorite fish.
Brooktrout,
You got it. The first photo is from the old Baca, right in the middle of the Caldera. I didn't take the picture while fishing though, it was during the transition from private > trust that I got to go there for work. It was tough to walk the streams without a fly rod.

"It was tough to walk the streams without a fly rod."
i bet.
did you hear that they have finally gotten rid of the lottery system? now you can just reserve a beat on whatever day is open like it was before. but they raised the fee to a ridiculous $35 per rod. i really don't like their whole "experimentation in management" approach. all it is is another way to charges us for something that should be free.

I agree. Their approach is not working. It is time for innovation, or at least something that has proven itself elsewhere. I'm still considering paying the steep rod fee to check it out later in the summer, though.
