The weekend just passed saw the my first two fishing trips of the new trout season here in South Wales, and although the fishing was hard, and the number of fish VERY low, it was great finally be back on the home streams after five long, cold months :D

Here's to warmer days :)

A fine report.

Thanks for the photos,

Hi Brk Trt,

The fly is a goose biot paradun. I love tying with biots, they make a lovely segmented and buggy looking body. I also fish an olive version which work's well for the blue wings here in South Wales :)

Great photo work!! You mind sharing your camera setup to a board newbie?
Thanks,

Hi daleconnally, I take all of my fishing pics with an Olympus Mju 850sw waterproof camera. Does what I need it to, and easily. It can be a bit of a pain in low-light conditions, but what point-and-click cameras aren't. I tweak my images ever so slightly before I put them online, I might auto-adjust the levels, and maybe sharpen marco shots, but that's it :)

There are newer, higher resolution cameras out there now, but in my honest opinion (and unless you're a pro) you don't need anything past 8.0 megapixels. The fact that the Mju 850sw is waterproof is a God send too, not that I take many underwater shots, but if it starts raining hard or, in my case, you fall in, you won't have a problem :)

garethl,
Great pics!
Thank you for sharing.
Is it a norm for you to fish with such a dry fly in this early season?

Hi Satoshi,

Glad you like the photos :) I'm a big fan of your photos I must say. You living in a beautiful place.

Regarding the dry fly, and to be honest, I was a little mad fishing that. But, it was the start of the trout season, and after months of fishing teams of heavy tungsten bugs on larger rivers, it was nice to be able to get back onto the home stream with a small cane rod and to be able to cast a dry fly :)

Excellent Gareth... Don't know why I'm so late coming across this post???
Great to see your picture of the LDO, gives me hope I might see some when our season opens on Monday. Weather has been okay lately so my fingers are crossed.
Always nice to see the Welsh water, hope you have a great season.

Gareth,

Great stuff. Some really evocative photos there - thanks for posting. Beautiful little stream that.

BTW what line are you using on the cane rod?

Hi Jim, glad you like the photos! I hope your season kicks off nicely, and I look forward to hearing how it goes :)

Chalkstream, the line in the photo is a Scientific Anglers Mastery XPS. For small stream work it's my go-to line. I'm a big fan of them! SA have just brought out a new model XPS so I'm quite interested to hear what that's like. My current XPS has been in action for a good few seasons now and, as such, is beginning to look a little 'tired'.

Beautiful stream. It reminds me of many of the ones I fish. Now I really hate winter.

btw Charlie Craven would spank you for the way you tied on the biot. Mayfly bodies aren't fuzzy. :silent:
