I headed to my most reliable winter spot on Sunday. I hadn't fished in two months, so I didn't exactly care if I caught anything. I ended up spending most of my time sitting in the snow, relaxing with my little flask of Basil Hayden's and fresh pack of cigs. I had two hits on a #22 pearl Disco Midge, one of which I brought to hand, a nice, big brown. I also missed a fish on an RS2 I tied on once I noticed some Baetis hatching. Also saw some little black stoneflies. It's really nice to see insects and rising fish this early in the year.IMG_2098.JPG[/attachment:ljbhvv37]IMG_2096.JPG[/attachment:ljbhvv37]IMG_2092.JPG[/attachment:ljbhvv37]

Its a nice thing to get out, and to be able to take that fine brown on a #22 fly is a special reward.

Thanks,

Thank you for the nice report.
Such a big fish on such a small fly!

Is that the musky in Point Mt. TCA?

Nope. It's the South Branch of the Raritan, well upstream of the stupid Gorge. Here's a few more pics. As soon as this gross slush goes away, I gotta get back out there! Nice pics and great fish!

I would have probably tried fishing that tributary.

The trib was about 5 times its normal volume with snowmelt. I don't think it holds that many fish, and the river was definitely warmer. Gonna have to compare temps next time, and also this summer.

Yeah I have a feeling I got a general area where you were. I have caught many large wild browns in there like yours. Nice wild brown anyway :D
