Went out with a friend yesterday to a local small river. We just had to hit it before the non-TMA season closes in Connecticut.
I was not fully optimistic about what our chances were, but every once in a while the trout gods smile upon you.

Fishing was good. This particular stream does get stocked in the springtime, but I know for a fact there are wild fish to be had, maybe 33%, as an estimation. A fair amount also holdover from season to season.

This stream has all the usual culprits, brookies, browns and bows that hold over very well. The fish we caught with the exception of one were all pretty fat. The biggest was 21 inches. Not too shabby.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics - spring is right around the corner.

Is that rainbow in spawning colors? Very pretty fish. I'm very excited for the Esopus to open, maybe I can get some hungry post-spawn bows.

yeah, I was thinking about that. Rainbows being spring spawners - this would be the time of year when they start to get colored up. I know they don't reproduce naturally in that particular stream, but that doesn't stop nature from going through the motions, right?

I'm rather convinced that any stream that's not exactly toxic, and is survivable during summer, will at least have some wild reproduction.

Great looking fish!
They seem completely wild.
