We are working on a new web site, Tenkara-Fisher...

It will be independent of smallstreams & grassart.

It will be all things Tenkara.

If you have ideas of how you want this site presented, or you want to be a part of it, now is the time to let us know...

PM me if you are interested.

I'll participate. As long as it is well run and protected from flamers as this site, it will be great.

Of course.

We will use our knowledge in this area.

We now have a graphic artist who does excellent work.

Trolls and the like?

No worries there... It will work very similarly to this site. VERY similarly... :ugeek:

I don't find the time Will, it finds me.

I'm getting great response in PM and here. This is what we do.

I truly believe that there is more than a niche that needs to be filled. It won't be, "this is what tenkara is" it's going to be, "this is what we enjoy"

What tenkarausa.com is doing, we did that ten years ago.

This is all within our ability.

Thanks.

Re: web sites, this is top priority.

We can all share in making this web. I think a lot of people forget why a web site is what it is, the people. I can push content, but really, my content only primes the flow...

This weekend I will devote time to two aspects, logo design and framework.

We will have a splash page soon, this is for the international aspect that I am recruiting.

Would it be possible to move these posts to a new forum? This forum and the posts at Grassart contain a large part of "the recorded history of Tenkara". I hope they don't get lost in the shuffle.

gusstrand

Unfortunately, it won't be possible. Have tried things like that before, and it just messes up databases... Sorry.

adam

I'll offer you this.

tenkara-fisher is a plan to move forward based on a history of successful community building. We will make the site separate from grassart and smallstreams but it will be one in the same.

For me, there is no race to capture what is found at grassart, it will happen at it's own pace.

I like what you wrote and it will happen, however, when it happens, it will be with a broader scope with more focus on the details.

In other words, I'll bring forth stealth, techniques, equipment and forums to research and share each aspect.

The start of a site is critical to it's success.

Thanks for your note, I am listening.

I like all fly fishing web sites ,And a site devoted to tenkara should be very informative.this would be a great chance for people interested in tenkara to share information.

There is one already now.

I'm making an independent site.

I am working on tenkara-fisher.com forum architecture and hammering out the logo. The two above I concept designed with a graphic artist. I'm going to keep the quality very high and get tenkara-fisher something in the same lines...

Also drafting letters and translating, sending out to tenkara specific manufacturers and supply houses inviting them to participate.

All the while, I am making a bamboo fly rod for a friend, taking care of family stuff (wife, 2 year old Noah) and busting ass at work.

Life is good.

Adam,

I'm also very interested in your new site. I'm new to both fly fishing and tenkara, so I'm just reading everything I can, and I've found smallstreams very helpful.

Thanks again for the effort you and Gus have put into making such a useful and enjoyable site.

No problem.

Funny, there were fly anglers over at the Tenkarausa.com site that remembered me when they were introduced to Tenkara. They said something to the effect that I helped them to keep fly fishing simple and that helped them to succeed in it. Tenkara style reminded them of my theme here...

I worked on the site a bit more tonight.

Time is not always on my side...

Sounds Really Good! I'll sign up!! There is a new Tenkara Forum in the UK, I've just signed up. www.tenkara.co.uk (http://www.tenkara.co.uk) membership is limited at present; but with the increased interest in Tenkara, the site will soon grow I'm sure!

Thanks

Are you sure the UK site is up and running, someone has bought the domain, but there's nothing there?

Cool!

I am totally open to any and all, open source...

I'm not in a hurry with Tenkara-fisher.com It is already functioning, we are simply working the architecture and the skin. I will ask a few of you soon to help populate it a bit then go live.

That's about all I want to say about it at the moment, Gus is on me to get things going.

It will be good, I promise.

Ok guys, I would like to take a few of you to "prime" the place with a few posts of knowledge. The forum is initially set, the architecture could change a little, I doubt it though. The "skin" will change as I am working with an artist.

I am looking for a few volunteers to "populate" the forum with content. Stories, reviews, comments, anything you want. I have made a few posts and will work on a few more as I fit in the time between design, making bamboo fly rods and family.

PM me here with "Please add me" in the subject line to volunteer. I will give you access and you can begin. I won't promise you anything but I am working on a small gift to give the people who help me with the start.

I will be limiting this to less than ten of you.

Looks like a good idea but seems to me two Tenkara rods and one bamboo pole is more Tenkara oriented than any rod and reel combo especially since it is only a matter of time before one you craftsmen come up with a split cane bamboo Tenkara rod. Your logo. Just a thought.

Randy

Look again, the notes at the top may help.

Cane pole (with bobber!), Tenkara rod, Fly rod (where is the reel?) around the nucleus of which is the Japanese rising sun...

If it doesn't make sense now, maybe it will latter, maybe not.

I like it.

wrknapp
02-26-2010, 01:08 AM
Sorry. No reel. But a rod that has a reelseat with guides as depicted in the drawing just didn't seem right. I realize the final logo may be something different based on your written comments.

Like when you were describing it to me, I really like the graphic implication that Tenkara is not about one specific piece of gear, but a mindset, even a progression.

I find when I bring up the topic elsewhere, fly fishers often poo-poo it with "bushy streams and long poles don't work, why would I not just dap or roll cast, etc." To which I want to reply... "it's a style thing."

Gus, you had the "noodle dream"

It's true.

There are a lot of anglers out there that haven't practiced it yet that are already masters, they just don't know it.

The think of it is, Tenkara is really deep, but simple.

Grand opening?

May very well be like your first outing...

The cat is out of the bag, I don't have any more than that except nearly endless enthusiasm for filling it with content.

Jim did do a really fine job.

The logo looks great.

Looking forward to watching & participating in the site/forum as it continues to grow.
When I first tried tenkara I had no idea there was so much out there to read, observe, & learn (I'm becoming a pro at Google Translator ;) ).
Even in it's infancy, I'm really enjoying the new forum.
