With the new forum rules, I feel like I should contribute something instead of just lurking.

I've noticed that most of the members fish for trout, here's something a little different.
They're European Perch, from a couple of small streams nearby.
I also discovered some trout streams in my area by the end of 2009 season. I'm going to explore them next summer.

Here's a small lake/pond. The stream begins from the lower right corner of the photo.

This is a Roach, caught from the pond.

Nice pics. I'm very familiar with the kind of pike and perch type of water you're talking about. I have fished lot of streams just like that in southern Sweden and Denmark.
Are there no trout at all in that stream in the pictures?

Cheers
Martin

Nice report.

The photos are beautiful.

Do the perch rise to the flies?

Thanks for posting,

Wow, they look very similar to Yellow Perch I grew up catching in Ontario! Cool fish.

Beautiful. I can imagine I'm right there. We have some places very much like that here in Western Virginia. I recently retired and moved to Warm Springs, VA from Seattle and the warm water fishing is as much fun for me as the cold stream trout fishing.

Perch are probably my favourite fish. I just love the attiude they have ... especially when you get a decent sized one. The dorsal fin gets raised up ... almost like puffing up your chest! The colours (especially from rivers) are so bright. They can grow to about 6lbs (in the UK ... probably bigger elsewhere) and are highly efficient predators (same family as bass). I love fishing for them on lures and spinners and am planning on going after them next season with a fly rod. I'll be using clousers, mickey finns, woolly buggers, etc.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

Martin: I'm pretty sure there are trout, too.. I made a short visit to the upper regions of the stream and it looked quite trouty.

Brk Trt: Perch do occasionally rise to dries but I've noticed that most of the time they seem to prefer subsurface flies.

Lawrence, Perch are my favorite fish, too. It's the most widespread fish species here and they can be found in just about every lake, pond and river. And the attitude.. no wonder Perch is the national fish of Finland.

Pekka,
Great pics.
In my area, it is too hot in summer for trout fishing and I wish we had perch or panfishes or any warm water fish that take flies.
