A few of my cane rods which I use for stream and river. :)

First left, Chapman " Di Maggio" 8-0" 5wt. Note the spring loaded reel fitting.
Second left, a nice litle banty 6'-7" Nant Fechan I made from an old 8'-6"trout rod.
Third left, a no name home made build, 8'-6" 5wt.
On the end a Sharpes Scottie Impregnated.

Bill :)

Hey Bill, some nice looking cane rods you have! I may get myself an 8ft, or 8ft.6in, cane rod this year? if I can find a reasonably priced #4/5,weight!

Thanks for the photos Bill, it's always nice to see what other anglers have!

Hi Bill,

I was given a Sharpes Scottie Impregnated but have no idea of what weight line it takes as it does not have any markings stating this. I was just wondering what length your version is and what size line it takes? I've tentatively tried a 5wt on it and seemed to cope well but not having fished bamboo before I was just making an educated guess!!

Cheers

I found a very reasonally price bamboo rod blank just recently. Its a garrison taper I dont have a camera or know how to post pictures but I had bought an 8' 5wt. for $200. I also want to build a 7' 4wt. next. I had just completed it just before christmas. Cannot wait to cast it. Send me an email and can get you the name and address. He also sells completed rods. :D

Hi Gary,

I'm from Newcastle too, Walker, but now live down in West Wales.

The Scottie is an 8'-6" 3 piece. It copes best with a 6wt, but handles a 5wt nicely too. I use it at the start of the season on the wider rivers with a 6wt DT on those blustery bright days of March and April.

Cheers Bill, I appriciate that. I'll have to measure the one I've got but think it is more 9ft 6 but could be completely wrong.

It's a small world, I'm from Wallsend just next door to your old stomping ground and still here :)
