Any members flying RC helis? I started out with a Trex 450 clone, just to see if I like it. Well, I did and now it consumes more time than fly fishing…

I have the new Trex 500ESP on the way with the lowered battery tray to fit the larger 6 cell 40C lipos. Can’t wait to get this bird, put it together and fly the hell out of it.
Here’s a vid of Tareq Alsaadi doing his 3D stuff. Although I have a lot of respect for his skills, I’m a sport flyer and the occasional loop and roll is more than enough for me...for now anyway...

This one?

I did watch the whole thing, incredible.

He is terrific at it but not as good as I thought. On several changes, the tail and even the main rotor was in the dirt. I had the idea that once that happened, it was game over, I guess not. No taking away his spatial orientation though, his skills are world class?

Can you imagine a failure of a servo wire or the splines on a cog?

I'm pretty sure those blades will go right through you and keep on going. In that, I see a small margin for error and your kit must be inspected and in top shape. Just an little wrong movement of the control, tiny as it passes you closely and done.

The tail slide into upside down hover; amazing.

Angry dragonfly.

With a 450 class worse case is a visit to the hospital; a 500 worse case gets you to the morgue...a 700 class, like the one he was flying, gets you to the morgue fast.
I had the elevator servo gear strip on me two weeks ago. The heli was head high about 10ft in front of me. I saw the servo arm come right up and the heli came at me with speed. If I didn’t see the servo arm come up and had the split second to get out of the way I would have been toast. They may look like toys but they’re not.
We’ve had a case down in SA where a spectator kid got badly injured by one. I do my flying away from onlookers (as much as possible) where if I crash I’m the only one that may get hurt.

As I thought.

But it is cool to fly, no doubt and I understand the Heli is very difficult to master.

You read like you are more than a sport pilot G...

Thanks for posting this, little chance that I would ever fly one but I am truly impressed and it is interesting.

That's so cool Addy...brings back a lot of memories...young and invincible were our credo...our "Charlie" was called terrorists and we were the freedom fighters...how quickly things change...

Great shots! G, is there a "kill switch"?

Yep, we’ve had them on the Puma “gun ships”. It was a trigger on the cyclic control and delivered 20mm rounds to the target.

Seriously, yep they come with a throttle cut switch on the radio transmitter.

That’s a great pic Addy. I’ve never piloted a Huey, but would have loved to - they sure have a badass look to them.

I've attached some pics of my Trex 500 which I build in December - she flies big and sweet.

The graceful style of flying I enjoy most - big and smooooth. :bigthumb:
